This was the marque's first FWD car - a thoroughly modern design with a transverse-mounted all-alloy 1.1 litre OHC engine, all-independent suspension and front disc brakes, wrapped in a PininFarina-designed 4-door body. The 204 soon spouted variants, including a wagon, a fastback coupé and a cabriolet.

Peugeot revealed the new 304 in 1969, based on the 204 platform but with larger engines and 504-inspired front and rear styling. The 204 stayed on as a more humble cut-price saloon and estate, but coupé and cabriolet were updated to 304 spec from 1970. At this point the 304 Cabriolet was officially imported into the UK with right-hand drive.

What makes this 1975 Peugeot 304 really special, however, is the condition. It's really rather exceptional, bar a curious repair to the non-leading edge of the nearside door. The panels are straight, the gaps are good, there are no untoward ripples or dents. The steel wheels are free of rust, and each one wears the correct chrome cap.
